Pioneer Health Fair

Pioneer Elementary students learned about the human body during the annual health fair.

Eastern Oregon University student Bev Smith presented 10 lessons on the human body, and participants researched different parts of the body, including the respiratory, digestive, nervous and circulatory systems. Various demonstrations were held to show students how the body works. To show the digestive system, coffee, a filter and licorice were used. Students checked their pulses with play dough to learn about the circulatory system. The nervous system was portrayed by combining brains made with cat litter, sand and mashed potatoes.

A plastic bottle modeled for a lung to demonstrate the respiratory system.
