Students Connect with Hurricane Victims

Students of Ontario Middle School wanted to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and it happened that Ontario resident Ray Hartley was able to help them accomplish that. Mr. Hartley operates a water and showering truck and traveled to the south to provide services to hurricane victims after the storm. His contact with the people of Mississippi allowed him to connect OMS with the Pass Christian school system, which needed assistance after the hurricane.

Having direct contact with the Mississippi schools had a definite impact on OMS students. The Pass Christian Schools provided OMS with a list of supplies that they needed. Binders, spiral note books, loose leaf paper, pencils, crayons and other necessary school items topped the chart. With this in mind, OMS earned more than $1,000 in a coin drive to help provide these items.
