Meet John McDonough, Associate Principal

It's hard to walk away from a good thing. Just ask John McDonough. Although he retired from the district in 2003 after 30 years in education, he returned to the district in the fall of 2004 as a middle school associate principal. During his career as a teacher and administrator, Mr. McDonough taught social studies at OMS from 1972 to 1980 and was associate principal there from 1980 to 1985. When he retired, he was associate principal at Ontario High School.

"Charles Schwab has been quoted as saying, 'One can succeed at almost anything for which he has enthusiasm.' I was certainly enthusiastic about teaching - so much so that I chose to spend my entire adult life in public education, working with children and fellow educators. A student once wrote she noticed I called students by name in the hall and she liked how it made her feel to have her name called, and when I talk to former students, they always seem to have good memories about participating in my classes or having had me as an administrator, so I guess I was successful."

Best known for his sense of humor, especially his ability to take advantage of an opportunity at a pun or play on words, staff are glad to see Mr. McDonough around the district again. He and his wife Maureen are the parents of three grown children, and have three grandchildren including one who has also joined the district - as a kindergarten student.
