May Roberts Student Council

Children have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills while students at May Roberts Elementary. Now in its fifth year, the Student Council at May Roberts regularly has 18 students in grades 3-5 participating in this service and leadership program.

In the past year, these student leaders have been involved in several activities including organizing Red Ribbon Week activities, assisting with the Help Them To Hope food campaign, participating in the Winter Wonderland Parade, raising money for tsunami relief efforts, and helping with the school's annual Hobby Day and Move-up events.

"Some of these are ongoing, but these council members often must be available to help whenever they are needed, advisor Teresa Gartung said. "I am convinced that this program is a great way to teach positive leadership that will continue to grow as the students themselves grow."

The Student Council met every Monday throughout the school year to learn leadership skills and planning processes. Mrs. Gartung is pictured here with this year's outgoing Council president.
