Leprechaun Traps Set at Alameda

The fourth grade classes at Alameda made traps to catch those clever little leprechauns on St. Patrick's Day. Classes read the picture book, Clever Tom and the Leprechaun by Linda Shute, and the kids all had to write a response to what they would do if they found a pot of gold. They also had to design and build a leprechaun trap at home and bring it to school on March 17.

Many traps contained a contraption where the leprechauns would fall through a false hole in the floor. Other traps would drop something from up above and trap the leprechaun. Some traps came with sticky paper or molasses to "stick" the leprechaun. A few created featured the basic rabbit trap model. Some traps were quite unique in their design. All were very decorative.

At the end of the day on March 17, alll of the fourth grade students visited each classroom and voted for the best trap in the room. They judged the traps on design and artistic decoration. The winners for each classroom were:
