B.A.B.E.S. at Pioneer

Students at Ontario High School who participate in the B.A.B.E.S. program (Beginning Alcohol and Basic Education Studies) visited Pioneer Elementary recently.

BABES is a federal substance abuse prevention program that the Ontario School District implemented 10 years ago, with the main focus being K-6th grade. OHS students receive a leadership credit for the class as well as the opportunity to serve as positive role models and educators for the younger students.

The program consists of seven skits OHS students learn and perform at the elementary schools. The skit topics range from Self-Esteem to Codependency, in an attempt to educate and prevent young lives from being destroyed by alcohol and drugs, as well as teach youngsters how to cope with and help family members who may have a drug and alcohol problem. The skits consist of puppets and costumed characters.

This year's BABES Club is under the advisement of Kate Guerrero.
