B.A.B.E.S. Club at OHS

"Beginning Alcohol and Basic Education Studies" sounds very grown up. The message students deliver through the program though, is aimed at elementary-age children, so the program is known as "BABES."

For more than 10 years now, a group of students at OHS, each year, have volunteered to participate in this important program. Through the use of puppets and costume characters, the high schoolers talk to youngsters about the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle and avoiding decisions that will lead them to drug and alcohol use and abuse.

Through seven BABES lessons during the school year, these mentors reinforce messages about living with someone who is living with drug or alcohol addiction, as well as reinforce messages about staying healthy.

The BABES class perform at each of Ontario's five elementary schools. The group is under the advisement of Mrs. Kate Guerrero.
