4th Grade "Scientific Inquiry"

Mary Christensen's class has been working on the "Scientific Inquiry" portion of the fourth grade Oregon benchmarks. Presently, students are attempting to make some crystals grow, hoping to eventually grow three different type of crystals.

Students have a procedure that must be followed with the experiments, focusing on observation and the collecting and presenting of data. "In order to make good observations we need to record accurate data and/or observations and transform that data into a format that is appropriate," Mrs. C. said. "There is one group in charge of the actual experiment while the rest of the classmates are observers. They will continue to change roles until everyone has had a chance to be a scientist and everyone an observer for each experiment."
