Kemble and Trenkel are Recognized

Posing with Cairo Elementary School principal Steve Bishop are the originators of the school's annual chili feed, Evelyn Kemble (left) and Ronnie Trenkel, both of Ontario. The women cooked the first batch of chili in 1957, just before Cairo School opened. The 35 lbs. of beans they prepared were mostly for friends and family of the Lincoln School area. Kemble said the last time she made the chili, they cooked over 100 lbs. of beans. Today, organizers prepare well over 200 lbs. of beans, serving a couple thousand residents from the western Treasure Valley. Kemble and Trenkel were recognized at Cairo's Volunteer Appreciation Celebration.
