1st Grade and Dr. Seuss

During the month of February, students in Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Eacker's first grade read lots of Dr. Seuss books. Their first graders researched questions having to do with the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, and participated in the Aiken Reading Olympics. Like many schools, these first graders took part in the Read Across America Day, that occurs each year on or near Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd. During this time, students listened to The Cat in the Hat story, and were amazed by all the rhyming words they can now recognize! In class, students were learning the difference between fiction and nonfiction. In addition to having their photo taken wearing the same kind of tall red and white hat as the Cat wore, students got to wear gold medals too. After they read the book Green Eggs and Ham, they we actually ate green eggs!
