The Economics of Caring

Taking the project outside of the classroom, the students sold items at their own "West Park Outlet Plaza".  The student shops were situated in the lobby of the Four Rivers Cultural Center and their hand-made creations were made available during intermission at the Aiken Elementary Christmas program.  Prices or the fun objects were low, enabling all attendees the chance to buy.
Another lesson Mrs. Brown taught with this project is charity.  She asked her class to come up with a cause in which to donate their sales proceeds.  Choosing a worthy cause was not difficult.  Two members of the class are relatives of an OHS student who died in an automobile accident just weeks before.  The students resolved to make a donation to the family in order to express their sympathy.

Prior to Christmas Break, the girl's mother and aunt visited Mrs. Brown's class to receive the young students' special gift.
