The second annual "Chess for Success" tournament was held at May Roberts Elementary under the direction of Chess Club Coordinator Dr. Dennis Carter.  Five groups of students from Vale Middle School, Vale Elementary School, Alameda Elementary, May Roberts Elemenatry and Willow Creek Elementary participated.

Each student played an average of five games during the day. "There was great parent support and encouragement," said Alameda chess coach Mandy Williams.

Williams explained that while the students took their matches very seriously, they were also careful to use good chess etiquette.  "The shook hands before and after play and used kind words," she commented.
