Patterns Make Connection

Tammy Jordan's first grade class has been working on patterning.  What does this have to do with math?  "The power of patterns is that they allow us to predict what will come next and they allow us to solve problems that would be very tedious to solve otherwise," notes Robert Wirtz author of Drill and Practice at the Primary School Level. "Students need to learn to look for these patterns.  They help them to make connections, predict what will come next, and solve problems," he adds.

Mrs. Jordan's class used colorful blocks to create a seemingly never-ending pattern throughout their classroom.
