Alameda Honor Choir

Music, singing and performing have always been a big part of Wendy Brown's life. This year, as Alameda's music teacher, she is hitting a crescendo with the creation of an "Honor Choir" for Alameda's fourth and fifth grade students.

"I had originally intended to make it a select group of individually chosen voices," Brown said. "But so many kids wanted to participate I decided to expand my expectations and include more students, settling for slightly lower quality in regard to voice composition."

Brown sais the decision was a good one.

"We're having a great time working on putting together our Christmas program," she said. "We have some really fun songs!" Brown, who has been active in musical theater most of her adult life as an instrumentalist, performer or co-director, is well-known in the Treasure Valley in music circles. She has taught private piano lessons, worked as Yamaha Music instructor at Trendsetters, and with her best friend and fellow Ontario Public Schools teacher Jo Reece, created the Treasure Valley Young Peoples Theatre. Although you'll generally find her at the piano, Brown was a member of a bagpipe band at one time. She began her teaching career in Payette as a music teacher and has previously taught music at Cairo and Pioneer during her 23 years of teaching.

"I truly believe in the power of music to promote positive messages and values and direct students along a path of worthwhile expression and fulfillment," Brown said.

Alameda's Honor Choir will perform throughout the Christmas season at the request of local service organizations or clubs. To raise money for their sheet music, the group is selling Christmas music CDs.
