HOW TO GET INVOLVED: FARM TO SCHOOL AND SCHOOL GARDENS

Ways parents and community members can support Farm to School and School Gardens

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

Ways parents and community members can support Farm to School and School Gardens-----

Write to or visit your legislators and let them know that you value their investments in Farm to School and School Garden grants, which bring to life their commitment to healthy students and thriving Oregon agriculture. Find your legislators here: www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr.

Talk with your kids about the menu changes and how they support great farmers and food processors in your community. Or, have your student write or draw a picture for their legislator, depicting what Farm to School and School Gardens mean to them.

Cook fruits and vegetables that we are featuring on the menu at home to help your kids become more familiar with them.

If your children are not regular school lunch participants, buy lunch on days when we feature local produce, which sends a message that you support our Farm to School efforts to purchase local foods directly from Oregon producers and processors for school meals.

Volunteer in your school.  Help with the school garden program if there is one; help start one if there isn?t. Chaperone school field trips to farms, or help serve or supervise lunch one day per week.

To join the efforts to expand Farm to School and School Garden program funding statewide, please contact farmtoschool@upstreampublichealth.org.
