OHS School Parent Advisory Council

The Ontario High School Parent Advisory Council is looking for all those parents interested in providing input used by the high school administration when making decisions and setting policy.

Chairperson Cathy Wiegand reviewed some of the issues addressed during the 2000-2001 school year were:

  • endorsement to bring Brad Henning and his sexual abstinence message to OHS
  • input for revising OHS eligibility process
  • substance abuse at school dances
  • A+/A- grading system
  • appropriate selection of favors to be used at Prom 2001
  • enforcement of student dress codes
  • mandatory tutorial time for students

"Regarding each of these issues, the Parent Advisory Council was asked for its input and in some cases was the deciding factor for the administration's decision," Wiegand said. "All interested parents, guardians and community members are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings."

The advisory council meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 a.m. in the OHS library. Parents and patrons can mark their calendars now. Dates for the 2001-02 school year are Oct. 9, Nov. 13, Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Feb. 12, March 12, April 9, and May 14.

"We'd like to issue a special invitation to join us to those parents of students new to OHS," Wiegand said. "Your questions and your enthusiasm are welcome."
