Jogging for Fun and Funds

The Annual Cairo Jog-a-thon, organized by the school's PTO, was held on a beautiful fall day. The event is held each year as a fund raiser for the school.  To keep with tradition, the school held an art contest to best depict the event. Brooke Mulvaney from Cairo's 5th grade class won the contest.  Her artwork was reproduced on the t-shirts that were given to all students and staff to wear on the day of the event.
Cairo students took pledges from friends, families and neighbors prior to the big day.  The top three earners were awarded $50, $25, $15 respectively.  "Other kids received pop, pencils, candy and Wal-mart gift cards," explained PTO member Darci Payne.  While a portion of the proceeds went towards the cost of t-shirts and prizes, the bulk "goes toward AR tests, awards, and the AR Store coming up," said Payne.  Funds from the jog-a-thon will also be used as seed money for the 2009 Chili Feed.
