Alligators Celebrate 100 Days

To celebrate the 100th day of the school year Maria Clark's first grade students did a variety of activities. They made beautiful "100" crowns and colorful necklaces with one hundred fruit loops. Most importantly, they brought in collections of 100 things from home. Collections were made up of coins, beans, marbles and even poker chips. And, what fun is a collection if you can't show it off? Aiken second grade students visited Mrs. Clark's class to view the collections and enjoy a reading of "100th Day Worries" by Margery Cuyler. The picture book tells the story of a character named Jessica who was also asked to bring a collection of 100 things to school. She tries and tries to think of what to take to school. Finally, her family helps her create the best kind of collection. These special activities marked the fact that the 1st grade students know all about their numbers, clear to one hundred. "One hundred is a big number in first graders' minds," said Mrs. Clark. Way to go 1st grade Aiken Alligators!
