Gingerbread Man Teaches at Alameda

Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man! Jolene Zagaris' first grade class and Kelsey Zimmerman's first and second grade blended class have been a cookin' away with gingerbread activies. They started by reading "The Gingerbread Baby" by the author of the month, Jan Bret. After reading the story, the students made gingerbread math glyphs out of paper. Each glyph was unique because each student designed one according to their birthday, age, and interests. The students also read different versions of the Gingerbread Man tale and wrote their own gingerbread stories in their writing books. They even got to paint the gingerbread man.

To put the "icing on the cookie" the teachers gave each student their own gingerbread cookie to decorate. Students especially enjoyed this activity because they got to eat the cookie when they were finished.
